Disclaimer
1. No advice
Section titled “1. No advice”The content of this site, including the guides, checklists, tables, the national register tracker and the self-assessment, is general information. It explains public legal and technical texts in plain language.
It is not legal, regulatory, technical, compliance or other professional advice. It does not take your organisation’s circumstances into account. You should not rely on it as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.
2. No lawyer–client or advisory relationship
Section titled “2. No lawyer–client or advisory relationship”Reading this site, using the self-assessment or contacting us does not create a lawyer–client, consultancy or other advisory relationship. Messages sent to us are not treated as confidential legal communications.
3. Independence
Section titled “3. Independence”This is an independent knowledge base. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or acting on behalf of:
- the European Commission or any other EU institution, body or agency;
- any Member State or national government;
- any national registrar of wallet-relying parties, supervisory body or certificate provider;
- any provider of a European Digital Identity Wallet.
Names of institutions, laws, specifications and products are used only to identify them. References to them do not imply any endorsement.
4. Accuracy and currency
Section titled “4. Accuracy and currency”We aim to be accurate and to cite our sources. However, this area changes quickly:
- the eIDAS Regulation, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1183, is supplemented by implementing acts that can be amended or replaced;
- the Architecture and Reference Framework (ARF) and the technical specifications it relies on are published in new versions;
- each Member State sets up its own register, registrar and procedures, and these are still being announced.
To make the limits of our content clear:
- each guide page shows a “Last reviewed” date. Content may have changed since that date;
- where a point is not settled, could not be verified, or is our own reading of the text, we say so on the page;
- dates marked “calculated” on the deadlines page are derived from periods in the legal text. They are not printed in the text itself;
- national entries marked “not yet confirmed” in the national register tracker are not confirmed by an official source.
We may correct, update or remove content at any time without notice.
5. Official sources prevail
Section titled “5. Official sources prevail”If anything on this site differs from an official source, the official source prevails. In particular:
- the legal texts published in the Official Journal of the European Union, available on EUR-Lex. Only the Official Journal versions are authentic;
- the guidance and decisions of your national registrar, supervisory body or other competent authority.
Before you act, check the official texts and consult a qualified adviser or your competent authority.
6. The self-assessment (“Check if you must”)
Section titled “6. The self-assessment (“Check if you must”)”The self-assessment asks up to six questions and maps your answers to provisions of the eIDAS Regulation as amended.
- The result is indicative only. It simplifies the law and cannot cover every situation, exception or national rule.
- It does not tell you whether you are legally required to do something, and it is not a substitute for advice.
- It runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are kept in memory only while the page is open. They are not stored, and not sent to us or anyone else.
7. No warranties
Section titled “7. No warranties”The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes, to the extent permitted by law, warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be available without interruption or free of errors.
8. Limitation of liability
Section titled “8. Limitation of liability”To the extent permitted by applicable law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, this site or its content, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
9. External links
